PLAYING WITH DIVISION IN THE GYM

Comments on this activity

Sweden:
We did the activity “Playing with division in the gym” with pupils aged 10. Instead of being in the Gym we went outdoors.
Before we went out, we gave the instructions and examples in the classroom. We also divided the class into two teams. All the pupils liked it and they were very active and collaborated very well. They wanted to do it many times and we made a competition out of it.

I did the activity " Playing with division in the gym " with my pupils (6 to 10 years old ). The older pupils helped the younger ones to perform the calculations . The students understood the game and had no difficulty when the result of the division was exact . The first time a remainder appeared , they did not know what to do and they made comments such as " Teacher, this does not give an answer ". I asked them if all the divisions gave a remainder of zero. The students understood they had to stay out of the arches "the remainders ".
The students enjoyed playing and practicing mental arithmetic in a fun way .
