Five in a row
Skogsbackeskolan
Karlstad
Age:
9 - 12 years old

Aims:
To practice the multiplication tables from 1 to 9, so you know them by heart.
To win you also have to think strategically.

Materials:
1 playing board, 2 dice 1-9, 2 pencils with different colours

Introduction:
2 players are going to play this game and we will see how well you know your tables.

Main part:
The players take turns at throwing the dice, both at the same time.
Say the right answer and choose a square to mark with your coloured pencil. You continue until one of you get 5 consecutive crosses in a row. You can also have them in a cross shape, vertically or in a diagonal.

Round up:
Have a discussion about the results. Use the following questions: Was it difficult? Why do you lose or why do you win?

Observations:
Some pupils have difficulties in knowing the multiplication tables by heart. The can play with the support of a little crib.
