Introduction

Our region is strategically situated on a border area between 2 great powers at that time: France and Spain.That´s the reason why throughout the Middle Ages important artistic innovations took place in this part of the country to such an extent that l´Empordà can be considered as a great medieval architectural area.

We could have enlarged ourselves on this subject a great deal, as the existing architectural samples are abundant; however, we have had to choose among the most outstanding ones.For this reason we have put a limit on the area we wanted to research and study: we have gone no far than 10 kilometres around La Bisbal, the town we live in.
