Immigration and human rights

1. Choose to write or talk about the following items. If you decide to write show the writing to your teacher for feedback. If you choose to talk, keep a note on your difficulties and solve them when you finish either by using a dictionary or asking someone.

Why do this? Talking or writing about immigrants will bring to your mind your knowledge on the subject. Hopefully this knowledge will help you understand the text better.

1. Are all immigrants treated the same way regardless of their country of origin?
2. When a nation has limited jobs, nationals should be given those jobs in the first place.
3. Crime rates increase in countries where law facilitates legal immigration.
4. In some countries-like Spain- it is economically advantageous to take in foreigners since the national population is growing old and the birth rate is very low. Nationals need immigrants to pay for their retirement pensions.
