Would you like to be an archeologist for a little while? Try and do this activity then.

You are going to see the world from a satellite. Get familiar with the mouse and the control panel because you’ll have to ‘fly’ to and ‘land’ on classical sites. Ready? Notice that at the bottom of the page you will be able to see some figures: they tell you the latitude and longitude of the pointer (for example, 41º23’12.79’’N and 2º10’12.29’’E would be the longitude and latitude of Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona). Remember we use degrees (º), minutes (’) and seconds (’’) to express longitude (N stands for North) and latitude (E stands for East). It is easier than you think. Remember that all important classical places are round the Mediterranean Sea. You won’t have to go very far.

Now read the following data about some important places in old Greece and Rome. Find them in the map and identify them. Finally, name the public buildings you can spot from a satellite view.

Long. & Lat. SITE NAME COUNTRY PUBLIC BUILDINGS

Browse this map slowly and locate the places you have visited before and many other Greek and Roman settlements. Write the names of all the places in your map.
