A Roman Villa

TIPS FOR TEACHERS

This is an on-line activity. Your students will have to “visit” a Roman villa in Britain and navigate through it in order to find the information they need to answer the questions they are asked. Students should be given either a piece of paper or a copy of the activity so that they can take down their notes or write the answers.

For further practice, and once they have finished, they can have a try and take a look at Hadrian’s Villa in Italy. For this activity it may be necessary to have previously downloaded the Google Earth programme. If you haven’t, you can do it now. Your students will have to identify the buildings on a map of the villa. For that purpose they can click on different numbered spots on the map and get the information from a website. There are a lot of spots to recognise so it might be interesting to limit the search to the most important buildings in the villa. In that case each teacher is free to make their own list according to their interests. The satellite on Google Earth will give them excellent views of the whole premises.
