SHORT ADJECTIVES

1. Most adjectives:

  • base form of the adjective + er

For example: small - smaller

"My new car is smaller than yours"

2. Adjectives ending in e:

  • base form of the adjective + r

For example: nice - nicer

"This blue dress is nicer than the red one"

3. Adjectives ending with a short vowel and a consonant:

  • base form of the adjective + double consonant + er

For example: hot - hotter

"It's hotter than yestarday"

4. Adjectives ending in y:

  • base form of the adjective without y + ier

For example: happy - happier

"John is happier than Mary"

 

LONG ADJECTIVES

1. Most of the adjectives:

  • more + base form of the adjective

For example: expensive - more expensive

"These red shoes are more expensive than the brown ones"

 

IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES
  • good - better

"This camera is better than the other one"

  • bad - worse

"This film is worse than the book"

  • far - further

"London is further than Paris"
