ELEFTHEROUPOLI, GREECE

3rd Primary School of Eleftheroupoli

The 3rd Primary School of Eleftheroupoli was founded in July 2007 by the Ministry of Education of Greece. We moved into a new building in January 2009. Until then, the school was hosted in a building of another school in the area.
Eleftheroupoli, in which the 3rd Primary school is located, is a town of 8.000 inhabitants and is 25km away from the touristic by-the-sea-town of Kavala, and 170 km away from the second largest town in Greece, Thessaloniki.
In our school there are 110 students and 17 teachers, of Greek language, of foreign languages, of physical education and music.
From the first grade onwards, both pupils and their teachers are involved in programs about culture, environmental education and health education. During the school year 2008-2009, in the hall of our school, several events were held which were open to the public. They were dedicated to the Children's  Book World Day, Mother's Day, Christmas and also at the end of the school year.
On planning the programs for the school year we decided to make a request for the Comenius project and we found the subject of this project very interesting.

We believe  that  school is not only a place of learning, but also a place that encourages creativity and culture.
