Direzione Didattica Statale VIII Circolo

The “8° Circolo” of Brindisi is situated in a peripheral area of Brindisi called Paradiso; it can be reached by bus system of the line STP service. The “Paradiso” is made up of civil flats and of tenement blocks; there are several green opened spaces whose care is due to residents or, in part, to local administration.
The small rural centre of Tuturano is about 10 km far from Brindisi which can be reached by bus service. The center of Tuturano is made up of ground floor houses, whereas the periphery is made up of blocks of flats. Pupils who attend the schools of Tuturano, come from rural areas, they can reach the schools only by school bus service.
Cultural leisure and sport activities are deficient; only catholic youth associations look after for them; in addition, there are small private football clubs and sport clubs which periodically and within limits aggregates children. Most of the families are made up of housewives, occasional workers, farm laborers; not many are office workers. There are a minority of jobless families, some of them earn one's living by illegal activities.

The lack of cultural and structural opportunities of both territories inhibits children's proper education; and that's the reason why the “8° Circolo” feels the duty and the pressing need to assume a role of cultural stimulus and, in particular, to foster disadvantaged children, promoting numerous initiatives in order to put children in a more and more significant way in the school environment. This context confirms the project activities of “8° Circolo” in order to reduce school dispersion, to integrate school and local territory, between different types of institutions.

The “8° Circolo” has 800 pupils:

•  495 in Primary School (302 in Brindisi and 193 in Tuturano)

•  Development of the identity;

•  Development of the autonomy;

•  Development of the competences;

•  Development of the meaning of citizenship.

In Primary School, first of all, the aim is to acquire the basic learning as the first discharge of the constitutional rights.

The “8° Circolo” realizes the concept of “formative school”; it enables pupils, through the alphabets of the subjects, to cultivate thought's capability, to develop cognitive, emotional and social dimensions, and to finalize the educational act to the whole development of the pupils.

The “8° Circolo” further emphasizes certain important issues, such as learning in a multi-cultural framework, which is the cornerstone of European citizenship, support for disadvantaged groups, countering under-achievement at schooland preventing exclusion.

The aims of “8° Circolo” are lay, but they include the religious dimension, both catholic and others, with all due respect and in compliance with the specific request of the users.
