CONNECTING EUROPE THROUGH MATHEMATICS
DEVELOPING NEW TEACHING STRATEGIES

Developing strategies in mathematics

Aims:

  • To compare the didactic methods used and the curriculums in the participating member countries. To compare ways of assessing procedures and mathematical concepts.
  • To create, compare, share and use new materials to improve our mathematics classes.
  • To integrate mathematics with other areas of the school curriculum, such as music, art, physical education, English, geography ...
  • To develop specific stategies for working with pupils with special educational needs.
  • To improve international links and our knowledge of mathematics and its teaching.

Expected impact:

By motivating the teachers and pupils involved in this project, we hope this project injects greater comprehension into our mathematics classes, making them come alive and real for our students. We hope our teachers will be open to new ideas and ways of teaching. Finally, we hope our teachers improve their communication skills in English and their digital competence.

Project timing:

Over the two years the project lasts we have programmed activities and discussions related to the following areas of mathematics:

2009-2010 NUMERATION AND NUMBER SENSE
2010-2011 CALCULATION

For each aspect:

  • Each school will outline its basic aims for each course and compare them with those of the other members of the project.
  • Each school will elaborate activities relating to the area of mathematics under study and will share them with the other members.
  • A comparison will be made of the strategies used in each school and of the results obtained.
