TIPS FOR TEACHERS

The following activity will help you tell your students about public buildings in Greek and Roman ancient towns. Your students will learn about their uses particularly. The activity has been divided into two different tasks.

Task one: Students have to identify the names of buildings and their uses. An interactive game is provided in case you think it necessary. As you will see, this is a very easy activity. Print the worksheet and make them fill in the table with the right definitions for each building.

Task two: Once students are familiar with the names and uses of public buildings, they are asked to find them on the Google Earth website and then locate them in a map. This may help to make them aware of the extension of Greek and Roman colonization. The satellite views also allow us to identify some of the buildings in the sites. Students are also asked to do this. Obviously, for this second task it is necessary to have downloaded the Google Earth Program previously. It’s free!! If you haven’t, you can do it here now: . You may improve the task by organising other activities using this program like finding other important archaelogical sites (a lot of them can be spotted in Egypt, Turkey, Italy, the Middle East, etc.).
