Now you have a better idea of what an architectural or a communication barrier is and how important it is to abolish them so that everyone can move about freely. But, is your town concerned with the problem of barriers and the disabled? This is what you are going to find out with this task.

Now visit the web of your City Council and find a page addressed to the disabled.

:: Check the information provided for the disabled.

:: Make a list of all the services your City Council offers the disabled and write it on the second column of the chart you have in Activity 3.

:: You may also like to visit the webpage of a local association for the disabled and/or send them an e-mail asking them for an opinion on this subject. They will be happy to help you!

Compare the 2 lists of services you have obtained after carrying out Activities 3 and 4

:: Decide to what extend your City Council offers enough services to the disabled.

:: Consider the information you have gathered from the association/s you have contacted.

:: Write an e-mail to your local authorities.

:: Expressing your satisfaction because you live in a town that cares about the disabled.

:: Complaining because your town is not concerned enough with the disabled.

 
Activity 6  
   

Make a poster and/or a PowerPoint presentation to the rest of the
class to show the results of your research.

:: You can include:

:: the e-mails sent to the local authorities and/or to the associations for the disabled,

:: pictures downloaded from the webpages you have visited,

:: the comparative lists of services you have written,

:: the comparative lists of services you have written,

:: brochures addressed to the disabled collected at Social Service in your Town Hall.

Activity 7  
   

:: Make an oral presentation with the results of your research. It should include:

    :: Share your conclusions with the rest of the groups that have gone through the same project and discuss your ideas with them.

As a group, choose the best three posters or/and PowerPoint presentations.

Conclusion  
    Now you have a better idea of how your town cares about disabled people. If you live in a town that is truly involved with the problem of the disabled, congratulations! On the contrary, if there is a lot to be done, be critical and complain to your local authorities (you will surely find an e-mail address on the home page of your City Council)!
