This page offers you a series of activities with which your students may be introduced into the different types of American and British popular music in the XXth century: Jazz, Blues, Pop, Rock, Country, etc.

All activities are treasure hunts and have a similar structure. They have been planned to be done on line but a student's worksheet is necessary so that they can take down the answers and keep arecord of the things they are learning. In the worksheets there are questions about different aspects of each style: rhythm, structure, lyrics, instruments, musicians, etc. Sometimes the questions include interactive games that can make the activities a bit more amusing.

If you haven't got much time, and bearing in mind that the structure of the worksheets is very similar, instead of working individually on each type of music, students might be divided into as many groups as music styles and then work on a single style. After that, they should tell the rest of the class about 'their' music style.
